Ebony J. Wright is a multidisciplinary fiber artist based in St. Louis, Missouri. Originally trained in oil painting, Wright’s approach to color, scale, and composition is informed by that foundation. She redefines portraiture through the use of wool, creating soft, textured pieces that explore identity, emotion, and memory. Before fully dedicating herself to her studio practice, Wright worked as an art teacher in the St. Louis Area. Her experience in the classroom deepened her belief in the power of creative expression as a tool for confidence, healing, and self discovery. These values continue to shape her artistic approach today.
She holds a BFA in Studio Art (Painting) and a BSE in Art Education from the University of Central Missouri and is currently pursuing an MFA in Fibers at Wayne State University. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Saint Louis Art Museum, Illinois State Museum, the Illinois governor’s mansion, and many other galleries. She received awards including the Dorothy Hawksley Emerging Artist Award, a Curator’s Selection at Noir 3, and a Marquita T. Chamblee Fellowship.
